Chile offers perfect topographical conditions for wind and waves: When a stable Pacific anti-cyclone is given, the dry interior lands and the hot desert in the north suck the cold ocean air (created by the pacific Humboldt Current) up along Chile's coast, such creating strong southerly winds.
Storms from the Antarctica are Chile's wave machine - they are constantly hitting the coast. Together with the Humboldt Current and strong SW winds they constantly deliver S-SW swells from the Antarctica to the Chilean coast, producing perfect wave conditions (due to the swell direction mostly left-handers).
During the South American spring (Sep-Nov) and summer (Dec-Feb) the average temperature in Matanzas is approx. 20-25Â degree Celsius, allowing for sunbathing in wind-protected areas but requiring a sweater or windbreaker at night.
The vibe in Matanzas, Puertecillo and surroundings is extremely laid back. Morning or (rare) no wind activities include Mountainbike / Yoga / Padel/Muy Thai, whatever you want. And, as there are always waves, you can get your morning surf session or chose for a surf or SUP sessions to nearby, world-famous surf spots like Punta de Lobos.
